Personal Development Plan

The PDP program is one of the key strategies in offering support to the career development of early career researchers, for example PhD students, Post-Doctoral Students and early career faculty members. The aim of this program is to provide the PDP group with an opportunity to make use of a structured and supported process to help them plan and manage their professional and career development progression.

What is a PDP?

A PDP is a process of creating a plan of action based on personal self-reflection, goal setting and identification of possible development activities that can be used for self-improvement in the context of a career, education or relationship. Personal Development Planning (PDP) is a strategy to support individuals with managing their educational, career and professional development. It is a dynamic process involving a continuous cycle of critical reflection, action planning, monitoring progress, recording achievements and evaluating developments.

A PDP usually includes a statement of one’s aspirations, strengths or competencies, education and training, and steps to indicate how the plan is to be realized. In order for you to reach your goals, you need to know your current state – what’s working, what needs attention and what action needs to be taken to realize your goals.
